“Drink Fresh, Drink Local”

We are proud to create and release unique beers each week for you to enjoy!

Our founder, Aaron Barkenhagen, started brewing Bootlegger’s beers on his own. Every now and then he’d call in a favor from a friend or family member – but local demand grew and it was time to bring on a team. In April 2008, after over a year of construction, Bootlegger’s Brewery opened and sold its’ first keg to a well known neighborhood bar in Downtown Fullerton.

About

About

Built for the Community

The Craft Beer market is expanding daily, and while many of these breweries have amazing products, their focus isn’t always on their consumers. At Bootlegger’s Brewery, our family first mentality has helped us shape the way we do business. As part of the OC community, Bootlegger’s Brewery is committed to ensuring that everyone who comes into one of our tasting rooms, buys a drink or tours our brewhouse becomes more than just a consumer. From the casual drinker to the die-hard fan, everyone who takes a sip from one of our beers becomes a member of our family.

Since 2006, Bootlegger’s Brewery founders Aaron and Patricia Barkenhagen have worked hard to ensure that our family enjoys the best quality craft beer the OC has to offer. With a well versed and knowledgeable staff, our team plays an important role in the growth of our brewery as a whole. With their immeasurable help we unite to provide amazing service and high-quality brews. This family mentality fosters a desire to bring newcomers into the fold, while welcoming back our regulars with open arms.

With tasting rooms in Fullerton, Redlands and Costa Mesa and taps in various venues, there are many ways to enjoy a cold one and know that it is going to be a high quality, locally brewed beer. Be part of the family, we’re ready to welcome you with open arms and a cold one.

Where We Started

In 2006, Aaron, the founder, realized he had an opportunity to transform his long time hobby of homebrewing into a viable business while taking an Entrepreneurship class at California State University of Fullerton. He set about honing his business plan and pitched it to a class panel. Before he knew it, he had leased a small 1800 square foot building, purchased a 7-barrel brewhouse, and was well on his way in building Fullerton’s first production brewery. In April 2008, after over a year of construction, Bootlegger’s Brewery opened and sold its first keg to a well known neighborhood bar in Downtown Fullerton.

    “Drink Fresh, Drink Local”

We are proud to create and release unique beers each week for you to enjoy.

Soon the 7-barrel brewhouse grew into a 30-barrel brewhouse in the summer of 2005. Over the years, we’ve grown from a one-person operation to over 35 team members. This allowed us to expand our creativity and brew more than just our core beers. We now have tasting rooms in Fullerton, Redlands and Costa Mesa. Our Costa Mesa location is now brewing beer with its’ first batch tapped for the public in July 2019.

Our year round beers have become industry favorites; Chango Mexican Lager
Far Out IPA and Palomino to name a few.

We create some of the most unique beers found in Orange County by using locally or specially sourced ingredients. At any given time, we have at least 10 different beers in tanks – brewing about 7500 barrels of beer a year. This allows our team to keep up to 30 different Bootlegger’s Brewery styles on tap year round in our tasting rooms for all to enjoy. This constant, rotating variety is something we are proud to share with you and is what makes us unique.

We’d love for you to stop by, for a private tour of our production facility please call (714) 871-2337 for a reservation.. You can find our products in chain stores and fine bottle shops throughout California
